Editorial Guidelines for Portfolio for the Future Blog Submissions

Thank you for your interest in contributing to CAIA’s Portfolio for the Future blog. The following are some steps and guidelines to help you with your submission.

Purpose and Objectives

Our articles are practical and industry-related, with the aim of helping our audience thrive as professional fiduciaries. Articles should achieve one or more of the following objectives: 

  • Discuss a new or interesting topic in the industry.
  • Offer a new or interesting perspective in the industry. 
  • Offer practical, implementation-focused guidance for investment professionals.

Articles should not be:

  • Promotional or political in nature. 
  • Overly vague, generalizing, or simplistic. 
  • Repetitive or redundant. 

Audience and Contributor Qualifications

Our blog is a CAIA Member resource that reaches well beyond our exclusive community. Alongside CAIA Members, readers include CAIA Candidates and industry professionals from across the globe who share an interest in advancing the alternative investments industry. While CAIA Membership is not required to contribute, we seek contributors with significant industry experience to meet the advanced insights our readers value.

We focus predominantly on alternative asset classes and strategies. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Access to Alternatives

  • Commodities & Natural Resources
  • Data Science & AI
  • Emerging Asset Classes
  • Hedge Funds
  • Infrastructure
  • Manager Selection
  • Portfolio Implementation

Submission Specifications

  • We publish articles on a rolling basis and are always accepting new submissions.
  • Submissions may be from existing publications, but the author must own the copyright. We may require edits to existing pieces and/or ask that they be reworked prior to publication. 

  • Authors may republish their own articles from our blog to other channels, but we do not permit unauthorized use of our content otherwise. 
  • Average posts are 800-1,500 words, with a maximum word count of 3,000. Longer pieces that deal with complex topics will be considered, and some topics may be suitable for serialized coverage. 

To be considered for publication, please send an email with a draft of your submission attached as a Word document to content@caia.org, directed to Associate Director of Content Development, Claire Sawyer.

References

  • All facts and figures must be properly cited from a reliable source. 
  • Please include in-text anchor links to any papers and research referenced in the piece when possible. If you need to reference a physical or non-digital source, such as a book, use endnotes. 

Graphics

  • Graphics are encouraged and should be submitted as individual jpegs and numbered to correspond with the graphics in the submission. 
  • Preferred dimensions for horizontal charts: 1000 pixels wide and at least 574 pixels tall (at 1000px width).

Bylines

  • Please submit your byline as you would like it to appear, along with any designations, including CAIA, CFA, etc.
  • Bylines should be no longer than 75 words. 

Disclosures

  • We include the following standard disclosure on all blog posts: “All posts are the opinion of the contributor. As such, they should not be construed as investment advice, nor do the opinions expressed necessarily reflect the views of CAIA Association or the contributor's employer.” 

  • Additional disclosures may be included but must not exceed 1-2 sentences.
